DIY Patchwork Baby Blanket – 2 Hour Sewing Project

Sew a super cozy patchwork baby blanket in just 2 hours. Use 4 fat quarters and some minky fabric for this simple baby quilt tutorial. Learn how to sew this easy patchwork blanket with this free tutorial. This adorable baby quilt would be a great baby shower gift.

This bundle of fat quarters arrived this month in my subscription from Stacked Fabric Company. I instantly went all squealy and excited when I opened the package, because they’re so cute! I decided to use these 4 fat quarters to make a simple DIY patchwork baby blanket for my nephew for Christmas. His bedroom is kind of an animal meets lumberjack theme, so I figure these tribal prints will fit right in! I’ve seen him bury his face into fuzzy blankets, so I think the soft minky fabric I used on the back will be a hit. 🙂

Start to finish, this DIY baby blanket took me about 2 hours. It’s nice to be able to finish a project in one sitting! That’s practically unheard of among crafters who typically have about 84 unfinished projects lying around at any one time!

A word on my fabric subscription. It’s like crack for crafters, I’m totally addicted! Every month I get 4 coordinating fat quarter quilting cottons. It’s a mystery bundle so I never know what’s coming, which is literally half the fun. It’s the absolute best mail! Stacked Fabric Company is Canadian owned and operated by the sweetest lady. (Who is not compensating me for singing her praises by the way, I just reallllly love this company!)

Ok, carrying on.

There really isn’t much to this DIY patchwork baby blanket, I kept it super simple. So the instructions are also pretty basic. If you have a fair knowledge of sewing, you should be fine!

When crafting is your day job it’s important that you find ways to keep enjoying it and not burn out. So I craft for fun too. In the evenings my husband will look over at what I’m making and say “is that for work or for fun? It’s hard to tell”. lol

Crochet is a ‘just for fun’ craft for me. It’s repetitive and relaxing and I can take it with me on the go and the end product doesn’t have to be totally perfect. It makes me happy.

So just bear in mind that I’m not a professional crochet pattern-writer, hopefully it will still all make sense.

The other thing that makes me happy is being cozy. My ankles and feet tend to run cold year round, I’ve been known to sport my ankle warmers with sandals in the summer. What can I say, I’m a fashion guru!

So I made myself these sweet crochet ankle warmers to keep me toasty all through winter, spring and summer.

There are a few crafts here that require wool felt as a material. I get a lot of people asking me where I purchase my felt since it’s typically not available in craft stores. The answer is that I also run a wool felt supply shop! I wear many hats. Check it out at www.wildflowerfeltdesigns.com .

Mini Master Makeover – DIY Bedroom Update On A Budget

DIY Bedroom Update on a Budget! My master bedroom was in desperate need of a re-fresh. But I'm a girl on a budget with a heart for DIY! So I came up with economical ways to spruce things up and create a super cozy refuge.

It was time. Long overdue actually. Our master bedroom was in desperate need of a refresh. Our comforter had gotten pretty ratty, our sheets were thread-bare and the headboard was feeling too busy. I’m a big believer in colour, I know it’s not for everyone, but I actually loved all the patterns I had going on in the old bedroom. But. My health has been struggling lately and I need to do everything in my power to encourage quality sleep. Including making my bedroom as comfy cozy as possible. So for my DIY bedroom update, I opted to stick with greys and pinks and keep things as soft and un-busy as possible. Here’s what I came up with! All on a budget of course. 🙂

I’ve been planning this master bedroom update for a while now. The flip side of not having a lot of money to accomplish projects is that you usually have to do a LOT of advanced planning and waiting. 🙂

Maybe some day I’ll be able to just walk into IKEA and buy an entire bedroom, furniture, decor and the works as is. But today is not that day. So that means being a little creative instead.

All in all, I spent about $85 (cad) of my own cash on this master mini-makover. But in the interest of full disclosure, if I had paid for everything outright it would have cost about $300. Which is still not a bad price for such a cozy bedroom!
