20 Super Cute Free Felt Animal Patterns

April 22, 2020 by Laura 13 Comments

Last Updated on March 1, 2022

I’ve got a confession, I love writing these round-up posts! It’s so fun to research and see how much awesome content I can find to share with you all! And you know I love all things wool felt. Felt is my passion. I love creating new designs and patterns and finding other awesome designs to complement my own. So here’s a round-up of 20 oh-so-super-cute free felt animal patterns for you to enjoy!

20 Free felt animal patterns. Make a whole forest or ocean full of felt plushies with these free patterns. Patterns for nautical creatures, woodland creates and magical creatures! DIY felt animal patterns, free to download. Tutorials suitable for beginner sewists. Beginner-friendly felt sewing patterns for adorable animals!

I tend to take on big sewing projects that never get finished. I know I’m not alone. Sometimes the big projects are just too daunting to pick up where you left off. A little project might be just what you need instead. Most of these felt animals could be completed in one sitting, and there’s something very satisfying about that.

So pour yourself a drink, put on a trashy tv show and spend an evening making a super cute felt animal plushie! Make one or make a dozen, these are fantastic gift ideas for little ones!

Plus check out this page for a list of all my favourite tools for working with felt.

Free Felt Animal Patterns

1. Mermaid

Ok so right off the bat I don’t know if a mermaid counts as an ‘animal’ so much as a majestic, wondrous beauty of the sea. But it’s still an adorable free pattern so I included it!

Thank you so very much for your generous supply of felt animal templates. They are simply darling. My grandson is partial to sea otters and I am having a hard time drawing a template to make him felt sea otters as a birthday present as I am not as talented as you. Would you please con sider making a sea otter template? I would be ever so appreciative if you did.

          Hi Steph,
The little bunny is a free pattern on the blog. Perhaps you clicked the link that takes you to the accompanying set of woodland animal patterns (on Etsy) by mistake? Here is the link for the bunny post: https://www.theyellowbirdhouse.com/felt-bunny-diy-free-pattern/ Thanks!
