I tried to find as many modern embroidery patterns as I could. I really feel like hand embroidery is making a huge comeback as a traditional skill but not so much with the older, traditional designs. We’re going for contemporary, bright and cheerful patterns here!
So combined with the 17 sites from the first post I wrote, I’ve now rounded up a total 35 websites that offer beautiful free embroidery patterns that you can download!
(Update: I’ve just hit publish on another new roundup of 21 more embroidery pattern websites! So were up to 56 in total now!)
And of course I have a few freebie patterns here at The Yellow Birdhouse too. 🙂 This floral wreath pattern is one of my most popular posts, and this floral fox and bunny set is free too! The fox and bunny come with a free stitch guide which shows you how to do 10 common embroidery stitches. 🙂
Multiple Free Embroidery Patterns per Site
The following 10 websites all have multiple free embroidery designs to choose from.
1. French Mango
4 Gorgeous stitch-along challenges for the seasons and 4 adorable free patterns. She also has a number of Embroidery 101 posts to help you out and a lovely selection of patterns and kits in her shop!
2. Crewel Ghoul
This site has a number of modern patterns to choose from including this snake plant embroidery and a cute sewing machine. Also a desert moon and I really like these lemons!.
3. Jessy Rat Fink on Instructables
She has almost 600 instructables ranging in topics from embroidery to plant care to slime-making!
4. All People Quilt
The Lavender and Dandelion patterns are so sweet. This Mother’s Blessing would be a great baby shower gift for a new mama, and excuse me while I dash off to make an embroidered clock! I love a project that can turn hand embroidery into a practical item.
This site also has a lot of cute cross stitch patterns.
5. Sublime Stitching
You have to sign up to see what free patterns are available, but it’s totally worth it! They are so adorable. There’s a robot, hedgehog, florals, potted cactus and more. I won’t share any images since the artist was careful to keep her designs password protected. But take my word for it, you won’t be disappointed!
6. Gathered
Pretty Bicycle, Beaded Octopus, Nighttime Camping & Hexie Bee.
I’ve never done an embroidery with beading before, I’d love to give this edgy octopus a try! And wouldn’t that bicycle be perfect for Valentine’s Day or an anniversary gift?
7. Bugs and Fishes
There are so many free crafty tutorials on this site with lots of felt patterns too. Free embroidery patterns include this Never stop learning design and these summer flowers.
8. Anchor Crafts
So. Many. Patterns! :O Some of my favourites include Home Sweet Home, Grow Your Own Way, Cosy Plant Corner and the Rainbow Alphabet
9. Nicki Franklin
Some really sweet, farmhouse-y designs including a little spring basket and a trio of chicks as well as an embroidered needle case.
10. Taylor Made NW
There are 2 patterns available on this website, and it looks like more are to come. But if you follow them on IG, sometimes they post free patterns that they will send to you via DM in exchange for tagging a friend in the comments.
Single Free Hand Embroidery Patterns
These websites only offer 1 free embroidery pattern download that I could track down. But it’s always worth checking back to see if they add any new designs!
11. The Mom Creative
Beautiful blooming book pattern. This would be a great gift for a teacher!
12. Molly and Mama
The sweetest pastel floral wreath pattern. It would be really lovely with an initial embroidered in the center and hung up in a child’s room.
13. Floss & Hoop on Lovecrafts
This ‘home’ design is free, but she has more lovely patterns available for purchase too.
14. Lenalium on Instructables
This one is so cool because it uses little led lights as the stars!
15. Crafts-Beautiful
Another adorable floral design.
16. Bumpkin Hill
A super cute bunny pattern!
17. Threads Needle
A mimosa twig. I’ll be honest, I had no idea a mimosa was a plant. I thought it was just a drink! lol
18. Love Crafts
Beautiful sunny citrus summer pattern!
That’s it for now! I will continue to keep an eye out for more free, modern hand embroidery patterns but for now I think I’ve found most of them! If you know of more, let me know in the comments so I can add them to this list.
Don’t forget to check out part 1 where I rounded up the first 17 websites with free embroidery patterns.
Happy stitching!
Hi Laura,
Love this roundup of free patterns! Thanks!
Just letting you know the “A Mother’s Blessing” pattern you have listed is the work of Sarah Jane (illustrator) of Sarah Jane Studios. She has it for sale on her site.
Hi Emma, Thanks so much for letting me know!
